2 (1) In this Act,
- advertise
advertise includes the making of a representation by any means whatever for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, the sale or disposal of a meat product; (publicité)
- analyst
analyst means a person designated as an analyst pursuant to subsection 12(1); (analyste)
- animal
animal means any animal in the class of mammals or birds and includes any other animal that is prescribed for the purposes of this Act or that falls within a class of animals prescribed for those purposes; (animal)
- carcass
carcass means the body of a dead animal; (carcasse)
- establishment
establishment means any place in which animals are slaughtered or meat products are prepared, packaged, labelled or stored; (établissement)
- inspector
inspector means a person designated as an inspector pursuant to subsection 12(1) or (1.1); (inspecteur)
- label
label includes any legend, word, mark, symbol, design, imprint, stamp, brand, ticket or tag or any combination thereof that is or is to be applied or attached to or included in, or that accompanies or is to accompany, any meat product, package or animal; (étiquette)
- meat inspection legend
meat inspection legend means any prescribed meat inspection legend; (estampille)
- meat product
meat product means
(a) a carcass,
(b) the blood of an animal or a product or by-product of a carcass, or
(c) a product containing anything described in paragraph (b); (produit de viande)
- Minister
Minister means the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food; (ministre)
- package
package means an inner or outer receptacle or covering used or to be used in connection with a meat product; (emballage)
- penalty
penalty means an administrative monetary penalty imposed under the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Act for a violation; (sanction)
- person
person includes any individual, corporation, partnership or organization; (personne)
- prescribed
prescribed means prescribed by the regulations; (Version anglaise seulement)
- registered establishment
registered establishment means an establishment registered in accordance with the regulations; (établissement agréé)
- sell
sell includes
(a) to agree to sell,
(b) to offer, keep, expose, transmit, send, convey or deliver for sale,
(c) to exchange or agree to exchange, and
(d) to dispose of, or agree to dispose of, to any person in any manner for a consideration; (vente)
- Tribunal
Tribunal means the Review Tribunal continued by subsection 4.1(1) of the Canada Agricultural Products Act; (Commission)
- violation
violation means any contravention of this Act or the regulations that may be proceeded with in accordance with the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Act. (violation)
Marginal note:Binding on Her Majesty
(2) This Act is binding on Her Majesty in right of Canada or a province.
