Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Human Resources Development styled Minister of Social Development, pursuant to section 37 of the Department of Social Development ActFootnote a, hereby makes the annexed Department of Social Development Regulations.

Interpretation

 In these Regulations, Act means the Department of Social Development Act.

Public Officer

 For the purpose of the definition public officer in section 24 of the Act, a prescribed individual is a person employed in a federal institution or whose services are required by a federal institution, on a casual or temporary basis or under a student employment program.

Availability of Information

 For the purpose of subsection 29(2) of the Act, information referred to in that subsection may be made available to the following:

  • a) the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, for the administration or enforcement of the Income Tax Act;

  • b) the Department of Justice, for the administration of activities conducted with respect to legal proceedings and activities related to mutual legal assistance under an agreement;

  • c) the Library and Archives of Canada, for the administration or enforcement of the Library and Archives of Canada Act; and

  • d) the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, for the administration of the following activities, namely,

    • (i) enforcing the laws of Canada or a province,

    • (ii) carrying out a lawful investigation, or

    • (iii) exercising mutual legal assistance under an agreement.

Coming into Force

 These Regulations come into force on the day on which section 37 of the Department of Social Development Act, chapter 35 of the Statutes of Canada, 2005, comes into force.
