Complaint Information (Banks) Regulations

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to section 978Footnote a of the Bank ActFootnote b, hereby makes the annexed Complaint Information (Banks) Regulations.

Provision of Information

Marginal note:Information to be provided

  •  (1) For the purposes of subsection 456(1) of the Bank Act, the information to be provided is that complaints must be communicated in writing to:

    Financial Consumer Agency of Canada

  • Marginal note:Manner of providing information

    (2) The information referred to in subsection (1) shall be provided by the bank by means of

    • (a) a separate written statement; or

    • (b) a statement in a brochure, statement of account or written statement that contains other information that is required, under the Bank Act, to be disclosed in respect of a deposit account, an arrangement referred to in subsection 452(3) of that Act, a payment, credit or charge card, the cost of borrowing, or any other obligation of the bank under a consumer provision.

Footnote * These Regulations come into force on the day on which section 456 of the Bank Act, as enacted by subsection 122(1) of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act, chapter 9 of the Statutes of Canada, 2001, comes into force.
