Social Insurance Number Regulations

The following provision is not in force.

Marginal note:Number voided — beginning with 9

  •  (1) On the application of a person who has been assigned a Social Insurance Number that begins with “9” and has since become a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, the Commission must void the previously assigned number and assign a new Social Insurance Number that begins with a number other than “9”.

    (2) The application must be made in the form and manner required by the Commission and must contain

    • (a) the information and supporting documents required by section 2; and

    • (b) the person’s Social Insurance Number or, if the number is not known, a statement that the person was previously assigned a Social Insurance Number.
