Regulations Respecting Notes Issued by the Bank of Canada

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to subsection 25(3) of the Bank of Canada Act, is pleased hereby to revoke Regulation No. 1 made by Order in Council P.C. 2752 of October 28, 1936Footnote *, and to make the annexed Regulations respecting notes issued by the Bank of Canada, in substitution therefor, effective July 1, 1989.

Short Title

 These Regulations may be cited as the Bank of Canada Notes Regulations.

Notes

 Notes issued by the Bank of Canada shall be in the following denominations:

  • (a) [Repealed, SOR/96-122, s. 1]

  • (b) five dollars;

  • (c) ten dollars;

  • (d) twenty dollars;

  • (e) fifty dollars; and

  • (f) one hundred dollars.

 The notes referred to in section 2 shall bear facsimiles of the signatures of the Governor in office at the time the notes are printed and of the Deputy Governor appointed under subsection 6(1) of the Bank of Canada Act in office at the time the notes are printed, or in the event that the Deputy Governor is absent or unable to act or the Deputy Governor’s office is vacant, the signature of an additional Deputy Governor appointed under subsection 7(1) of that Act.
