An Act respecting Sir John A. Macdonald Day and Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day

SUMMARY

This enactment designates the 11th day of January in each and every year as “Sir John A. Macdonald Day” and the 20th day of November in each and every year as “Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day”.

Preamble

WHEREAS Sir John Alexander Macdonald was born on January 11, 1815;

AND WHEREAS he was one of the founders of Confederation;

AND WHEREAS he was the first Prime Minister of Canada;

AND WHEREAS Sir Wilfrid Laurier was born on November 20, 1841;

AND WHEREAS he was Prime Minister of Canada from 1896 to 1911;

AND WHEREAS he was the first Prime Minister of French ancestry and a fervent promoter of national unity;

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

SHORT TITLE

Marginal note:Short title

 This Act may be cited as the Sir John A. Macdonald Day and the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day Act.

SIR JOHN A. MACDONALD DAY

Marginal note:Sir John A. Macdonald Day

 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 11th day of January shall be known under the name of “Sir John A. Macdonald Day”.

SIR WILFRID LAURIER DAY

Marginal note:Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day

 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the twentieth day of November shall be known under the name of “Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day”.
