Hyperlinks to provincial and territorial courts' websites
Rules of provincial and territorial courts made under sections 482, 482.1 and 745.64 of the Criminal Code
On September 19, 2019, subsections 186(2) and 187(2) of An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and other Acts and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, S.C. 2019, c. 25 (the Act), came into force. As a result, the requirement in the Criminal Code that the rules of court enacted under provisions 482 and 482.1 be published in the Canada Gazette was removed. The Act also stated that the Statutory Instruments Act does not apply to rules made under 745.64 of the Criminal Code.
With a view to facilitating access to justice and the identification of the rules of provincial and territorial courts, the Department of Justice Canada publishes on the Justice Laws Website hyperlinks to legal information websites identified by the courts; this may include the courts' own websites or the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) website. The Department also relies on the information provided by the courts to update the hyperlinks. The Department of Justice Canada is not responsible for the content or the accuracy of the websites. It is the responsibility of the individual requiring access to these rules to contact the appropriate court to verify that the information is up-to-date.
Where available, the hyperlinks to the websites are provided in both official languages. If the website is not available in one of the official languages, a note to this effect is included beside the hyperlink.
