The Lieutenant Governor in Council of Ontario, pursuant to subsection 18(1) of the Sex Offender Information Registration ActFootnote a, hereby makes the annexed Ontario Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations.

Interpretation
1 The following definitions apply in these Regulations.
- Act
Act means the Sex Offender Information Registration Act. (Loi)
- OPP
OPP means the Ontario Provincial Police. (PPO)
- police officer
police officer means a chief of police or any other police officer, but does not include a special constable, a First Nations Constable, a municipal law enforcement officer or an auxiliary member of a police force. (agent de police)
Persons Authorized to Collect Information
2 The following persons are authorized in the Province of Ontario to collect information for the purposes of the Act:
(a) a police officer appointed to the OPP or to a municipal police force in Ontario;
(b) a First Nations Constable appointed under subsection 54(1) of the Police Services Act, Revised Statutes of Ontario 1990, c. P.15; and
(c) an employee of the OPP, a municipal police force in Ontario, an aboriginal police service or the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, whose duties include the collection of information for the purposes of the Act.
Persons Authorized to Register Information
3 Any person who is authorized under section 2 to collect information is authorized in the Province of Ontario to register information for the purposes of the Act.
Registration Centres
4 (1) A place set out in an item of the schedule is designated as a registration centre in the Province of Ontario.
(2) The designated area of service for a registration centre is the area served by the OPP detachment or police service, as the case may be, identified in the item.
(3) Despite subsection (2), the designated area of service for a registration centre referred to in this subsection is as follows:
(a) in respect of the registration centre set out in item 76 of the schedule, the area served by the Manitoulin and Manitowaning OPP detachments; and
(b) in respect of the registration centre set out in item 136 of the schedule, the area served by the Toronto Police Service.
Coming into Force
Footnote *5 These Regulations come into force on the later of the day on which the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, chapter 10 of the Statutes of Canada, 2004, comes into force and the day on which these Regulations are registered.
