Periodical Inspection of Non-Self-Propelled Ships

  •  (1) The fee payable for each annual, quadrennial or quinquennial inspection of a non-self-propelled ship that is subject to annual inspections, subsequent to the first inspection, is

    • (a) for a passenger ship having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table I to section 11, one-half of the fee set out in column II of that item;

    • (b) for a non-passenger ship, other than a ship referred to in paragraph (c), having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table II to section 11, one half of the fee set out in column II of the item; or

    • (c) for an unmanned, non-self-propelled ship, including deck cargo barges and barges that carry oil in bulk, having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table II to section 11, one half of the fee set out in column II of the item.

  • (2) The fee payable for each quadrennial or quinquennial inspection of a non-self-propelled ship that is not subject to annual inspections, subsequent to the first inspection, is

    • (a) for a passenger ship having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table I to section 11, the fee set out in column II of that item;

    • (b) for a non-passenger ship, other than a ship referred to in paragraph (c), having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table II to section 11, the fee set out in column II of the item; or

    • (c) for an unmanned, non-self-propelled ship, including deck cargo barges and barges that carry oil in bulk, having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of Table II to section 11, one half of the fee set out in column II of the item.

  • (3) The fees calculated in accordance with subsection (1) or (2) shall be rounded to the nearest whole dollar or, if the amount is equidistant from two whole dollars, to the higher thereof.

 Notwithstanding paragraphs 12(1)(b) and (2)(b), the fee payable in respect of each annual, quadrennial or quinquennial inspection, subsequent to the first inspection, of a non-passenger, non-self-propelled ship having a gross tonnage set out in column I of an item of the table to this section, where the ship is not subject to periodical inspection of the hull, is the fee set out in column II of that item.

PART IIIInspection of Non-Canadian Ships

General

  •  (1) Subject to subsection (2), where the inspection of a ship that is subject to the Coasting Trade Act is requested for the issuance of a letter of compliance, the fee payable is

    • (a) for the first inspection, the amount specified in section 10 for that ship; and

    • (b) for a periodical inspection or partial inspection, the fee specified in section 11 or 12 for that ship.

  • (2) Where a ship is authorized to operate in the coasting trade and is in full compliance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conventions to which Canada is a signatory and its period of operation is seven days or less, the fee prescribed in paragraph (1)(a) or (b) is reduced by 90 per cent.

Issue of Safety Convention Certificates

  •  (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), where inspection of a non-Canadian ship is requested for the purpose of obtaining a Safety Convention Certificate, the fee is as specified in section 11 for that ship.

  • (2) Subject to subsection (3), where inspection of the life saving equipment, fire extinguishing equipment, lights and sound signals of a non-Canadian ship is requested for the purpose of obtaining a Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate only, the fee for that inspection is

    • (a) for a ship not over 1,600 tons, gross tonnage blank line $1,000

    • (b) for a ship over 1,600 but not over 3,000 tons, gross tonnage blank line 1,500

    • (c) for a ship over 3,000 tons, gross tonnage blank line 2,000

  • (3) Where an inspection referred to in subsection (1) or (2) is made concurrently with an inspection referred to in section 14, no fee shall be charged for the inspection referred to in this section.

Extension of Safety Convention Certificates

 A fee of $1,000 is payable for an inspection of a non-Canadian ship made for the purpose of extending a Safety Convention Certificate.

Authorization for Clearance

 A fee of $1,000 is payable for each visit that is made by an inspector, where

  • (a) an inspection is required for the purpose of obtaining authorization for clearance for a non-Canadian ship to proceed on a voyage from any place in Canada;

  • (b) the inspection is not made pursuant to section 14, 15 or 16 for the purpose of issuing or extending a certificate; and

  • (c) the inspection is not an inspection referred to in section 11 or 12 of the Marine Safety Fees Regulations.

Approval of Manufacturing or Servicing Plants

 A fee of $403 is payable for an inspection, made pursuant to the Marine Machinery Regulations, of a plant for which approval is required for the manufacture or servicing of ships’ machinery or equipment.

Inspections During Construction or Manufacture

  •  (1) Subject to subsection (2), the fee payable for inspection during construction or manufacture of components for use on a ship that are set out in column I of an item of the table to this section is the fee set out in column II of that item.

  • (2) A minimum fee of $100 is payable for each visit made by an inspector for an inspection referred to in subsection (1).

 The fee payable for the inspection or testing of materials used in the construction of hulls, machinery, equipment or cargo gear is

  • (a) for each visit made by an inspector for the purposes of inspection and testing blank line $100

Inspection of Imported Machinery and Equipment

 The fee payable for inspection during installation of machinery or equipment that was not previously inspected, that was built outside Canada and that is required to be inspected pursuant to the Marine Machinery Regulations is, for machinery or equipment set out in column I of an item of the table to this section, the fee set out in column II of that item.
