1 (1) Each returning officer shall be paid, for services performed by the returning officer during a referendum, a fee based on the population of the electoral district in respect of which the returning officer is appointed, as follows:

(2) For attending a recount pursuant to section 29 of the Act and subsections 179(1) to (3), sections 181 and 182 and subsection 184(1) of the Canada Elections Act, for each hour of attendance as certified by the judge who recounts the votes, the returning officer shall be paid

(a) for stationery, postage, telegrams, the rental of office equipment and furniture, telephone services and the transportation of referendum supplies, and other similar incidental expenses

2 (1) Support staff at the office of the returning officer, including the staff required for the handling of ballot boxes and for the tabulation of referendum results immediately after the close of the polls on the ordinary polling day, shall be paid,

(i) where the population of the electoral district is 60,000 or less, one employee, who may be paid for up to a maximum of 338 hours of work,

(ii) where the population of the electoral district is greater than 60,000 and not greater than 90,000, two employees, who may be paid for up to a maximum of 338 hours of work each,
| $ 19.00 per hour in total for the two employees |
(iii) where the population of the electoral district is greater than 90,000 and not greater than 110,000, three employees, who may be paid for up to a maximum of 338 hours of work each,

(iv) where the population of the electoral district is greater than 110,000, four employees, who may be paid for up to a maximum of 338 hours of work each,

(2) For the salary cost of additional support staff who may be required on a part-time basis during a referendum, the returning officer shall be provided with an accountable advance, based on the population of the electoral district, of

(4) For the salary cost of support staff hired specifically for affixing labels to notice of enumeration cards or detaching notices of enumeration from feed forms, when required, the returning officer shall be provided with an accountable advance of
