Order Respecting the Privileges and Immunities in Canada of the Meetings of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL)

His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for External Affairs, pursuant to section 5 of the Foreign Missions and International Organizations ActFootnote *, is pleased hereby to make the annexed Order respecting the privileges and immunities in Canada of the Meetings of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL).

Short Title

 This Order may be cited as the CITEL Meetings Privileges and Immunities Order.

Interpretation

 In this Order,

CITEL Meetings

CITEL Meetings means the international organization known as the Meetings of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL); (Réunions de la CITEL)

Convention

Convention means the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, set out in Schedule III to the Foreign Missions and International Organizations Act. (Convention)

Privileges and Immunities

 During the period beginning on August 20, 1994 and ending on September 2, 1994, the CITEL Meetings shall have in Canada, to the extent that may be required for the exercise of their functions in Canada, the privileges and immunities set out in Article II of the Convention.

 During the period beginning on August 20, 1994 and ending on September 2, 1994, delegates who are accredited to attend the sessions of the CITEL Meetings, and their spouses, shall have in Canada, to the extent that may be required for the exercise of their functions in Canada in relation to the CITEL Meetings, the privileges and immunities set out in Article IV of the Convention.
